Hey! Im so glad you found me
You've landed on my about page and I am to summarise all of who I am in a few, succinct paragraphs-- what a tall order! In 2015 I moved to the United States with nothing but two bags filled with clothes, books and a few bits of make-up. Since then I have become a PhD student at Duke University, with a lot more clothes, books and make-up than I can count! In 2022 I decided to take a gap year and come back home to South Africa. As my gap year comes to close and I slowly prepare myself to return to my PhD, I finally mustered up the courage to start this blog. There are so many thoughts, feelings and experiences that I have that I needed to put somewhere—this is the place. I have big dreams and this blog is just the beginning. I hope to blog myself into a public figure that is some kind of blend between Oprah’s conversational charisma, Esther Perel’s sharp, incisive observations and a healthy dash of Trace Ellis Ross’s optimisim and love for fashion and style. Generally speaking, you can expect to find philosophical ponderings, book lists and reviews, and lovely photographs. I think of myself as a deeply thoughtful and sensitive writer, photographer and scholar and I am so glad you are here to read some of what I have to share. Thank you for reading. Ellie
